Description

NCU473 Great Horned Owl 18x"x18" Petipoint Pillow. The detailed depiction is taken from "The Natural History of Carolina, Florida, and the Bahama Islands" (1731-1747), by famed naturalist Mark Castesby. He was one of several 18th century explorers who ventured to remote areas of the world to document regional flora and fauna. Castesby spent five years collecting specimens, taking notes, and making drawings. The Great Horned Owl NCU473 and the Little Hawk Owl NCU473 are examples of his detailed research. The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation collections contain a copy of the 1771 edition of Catesby's two-volume work. Great Horned Owl, NCU473 was licensed by The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation in 2008.
