Although the design looks Japanese and the coloration is contemporary, surprisingly, an English porcelain plate made in the 1770s inspired this "trend meets tradition" look. In the 18th Century, the British loved Chinese design, and the Chinese were fond of imitating Japanese goods-so this design is a world traveler.
